Windows

Here are some pictures showing the old windows, before they were replaced. They were pretty rotten, and were ready to be replaced.

Some of the old windows had wooden lintels above, which had been attacked by Dry Rot. I have replaced wooden lintels with new concrete ones, which will also provide a base for the new render. This is one being fitted.

I also had to fabricate my own window sill. Here the concrete is going off...

As well as the windows I have also replaced the doors and door frames. I have also had to fabricate new door sills to take account of the new floating floors which will be laid inside the house.

Here is a picture of the old back door. It had done a sterling job, considering how badly battered it had been by the Skye elements. But, it had finally reached the end of it's productive life...

This shows the new door frame going in. It was purchased as a unit, and then simply fixed to the walls, with a damp proof membrane attached to the sill. Any gaps were then filled with expanding foam.

Initially the back porch window had been blocked. Within the planning permission I proposed for this window to be re-instated. This window allows masses more light to enter the building (it's south facing), but I had to enlarge the opening.

Here is a picture of us enlarging the back bedroom window. Due to fire regulations and the layout of the rooms, Building Control have made us install an emergency escape window. This meant the sill had to be lowered by 30cm to comply. A new sill was then fabricated by us on site.

Here is a view of the front elevation, showing the new windows. All the windows are fixed using galvanised straps, cut to size. Damp proof membranes have been fitted to the bottom and sides of every window, and all the gaps have been filled with expanding foam.

And the new back porch window finally installed.
