I have now started building the timber frames for the upstairs walls. I will be boxing both gable ends in using stud partitions, and there will also be a dividing wall separating the master bedroom from the en-suite. The eves will also be boxed in creating a small vertical wall, with storage behind.
After a couple of evenings
work here is the North gable stud finished. This wall is now ready to be
insulated.
Here is another view. There will also be noggins to give extra support to the frame, and the whole thing will be covered with vapour check plasterboard, which is resistant to moisture.
To meet Building Regulations the void and the space between the studs will be filled with a mixture of Rockwool and rigid insulation. There will also be services behind this wall such as pipe work etc which will be installed later.

And the South gable - again, ready to be insulated.
At last the stud partition which will separate the en-suite from the master bedroom has gone up.
Once the stud framing is completed I started to fix the plasterbaord. Here you can see the vapour check plasterboard in palce. This wall is ready to be insulated now.

Before I could insulate and board the gable wall in the bathrrom, I had to install some plumbing for the toilet and shower. Here I have installed the pipes, insulated them, and now I can insulate the wall, and begin to dryline the wall.

Here
are the studs going in at the North gable end. I have used treated 70x45 timber
for the studs. I have a minor problem in that the rafters don't lie exactly
vertical above the floor joist, but we have been able to work around the
issue.
