Below are
some pictures showing the internal gable walls during and after they have been
pointed up.
As part
of the Building Control regulations I have had to line each of the existing
chimneys with a double skinned stainless steel flue liner. The picture shows
the north chimney with the liner installed.
I have
purchased a small pot bellied stove to allow me to get some heat back into the
building. Again, Building Control require a hearth constructing. The new floor
will be flush with the top of the new hearth eventually, so there will be no
step as there is now.
This is
the north gable wall, as it will be. I am very pleased with the finish. Stone
might not be efficient but it looks good!
And the
south gable pointed up, complete with hearth and stove.
When I was applying for Building Regulation approval I asked if I could
have the gable end walls exposed. Normally this would not be allowed, due to the
energy efficiency requirements. Stone walls are not very energy efficient.
Anyway, I was allowed in the end, so I have had a local stonemason point them
up. They look excellent...
You may have noticed that
the floor and walls are very wet. This is due to the fact that there is no
external render to keep the wall dry. The severe gales just drive the rain
through the stone walls, and hence the swimming pool!
