Once all the first fix electrical and plumbing work is completed the plasterboard can then be fixed to the wall. There are lots of types of plasterboard, all have their pro's and cons. I have decided to use 12mm TE (tapered edge) plasterboard throughout. In the wet environments of the house(bathrooms) I have used 12mm Vapour Check TE plasterboard, which is more moisture resistant.
Once the plasterboard is fixed, the joints are then taped and filled, and then depending on the finish, the whole of the wall could be skimmed with plaster. I am not planning to skim unless the finish is poor!
In this part of the building, the Building Control Officer insisted on the ceiling being filled with fibre insulation to help with fire protection as well as sound and thermal insulation. I've used Rockwool insulation, held up with mesh.
Here is a picture showing the plasterboard being fitted to the ceiling in the living room. All the plumbing and electrical work is finished, so we can proceed. You can also see the insulation, held up by mesh.
Where there are recessed lights to be fitted, I've had to place a piece of fire resistant material on the floor boards above for protection. In this case I have just used so off cuts of the 12.5mm plasterboard. I have also left out the insulation to provide better air flow.
Another view of the living room ceiling.
Unfortunatily, due primarily to limited funds I've had to leave the old flat roof on the front of the house. Although this had been recovered and repaired, I can not afford to replace it with a pitch just now. This roof has caused me endless problems though. Here you can see the insulation in the roof void, ready for the plasterboard to be fixed.
Here is the sun porch a week later, nearly completed.
This is the the main living room as plasterboarding of the walls takes place.
The completed room, looking at the south gable. The second fix plumbing for the radiators has also been completed, and the room is ready to be taped and filled.
Looking at the north wall...
Here is the north gable. Most of the plasterboarding has now been completed. I just need to finish off round the window, and then it's ready to tape and fill.
